Living Coral (Pantone 16-1546) has been selected by the Pantone Color Institute™ for the year 2019

This is a vibrant, yet mellow color that provides a feeling of comfort and buoyancy in our constantly shifting environment.

With all the talk about plastic polluting our oceans, I would like to think that was part of the process for selecting this color. But whatever the reason, Living Coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and evokes thoughts of happy times, of joyfulness, of bright sunny days, beautiful sandy beaches and sparkling turquoise oceans. It lifts our spirits.

Coral reefs are living entities in the ocean and are one of the world’s most colorful and diverse ecosystems. They do cover only about 1 percent of the ocean floor, but they have a huge effect on the health of the rest of the world. Healthy coral reefs mean healthy oceans which means healthy planet. When I look at this vibrant, effervescent color I feel a sense of hope, of happiness, of optimism for our future.

So, who is Pantone, you may ask. For the past 20 years, Pantone has provided a color of the year. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts search the world looking for new color influences. This can include the entertainment industry, art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel locations not to mention new lifestyles, playstyles and socio-economic conditions. Through these seasonal trend forecasts, color psychology and color consulting, the Pantone Color Institute partners with global brands to leverage the power, psychology, and emotion of color in their design strategy.

Add Complementary Colors: When decorating with Living Coral, consider its complementary colors. In this room, navy blue gives the room depth and pulls the room together with the complementary tone of the Living Coral stools to provide a rich nurturing color to the kitchen.

Hopefully Pantone’s Color of the Year, Living Coral will add hope, joyfulness and lift everyone’s spirits throughout 2019.

Happy New Year
